The Boeing Company is currently seeking a highly motivated, Senior Release Train Engineer (RTE) to become part of the C-17 Training Systems team supporting USAF and International programs using Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) in Hazelwood, MO. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Global Services (BGS) business organization. C-17 Training Systems is responsible for the design, development, manufacture, and maintenance of training devices for a wide variety of commercial and military aircraft.

The RTE will be a servant leader and coach who oversees and optimizes the flow of value through the C-17 Agile Release Train (ART) using various tools including VersionOne. The RTE will facilitate workshops as needed, will escalate impediments, manage risk, help ensure value delivery, and drive relentless improvement. They will also participate in the Lean-Agile transformation and coach leaders and teams in new processes and mindsets. The RTE will help sustain and relentlessly improve the Scaled Agile framework (SAFe) in accordance with C-17 team needs as well as standardize and document practices. The RTE must have a solid grasp of how to scale Lean and Agile practices, and understand the unique opportunities and challenges associated with facilitating and continuously aligning a large Core ART supporting multiple programs/contracts.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Coaches leaders and teams in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets

  • Drives relentless improvement and assess the agility level of the ART and help them improve

  • Fosters preparation of Vision, Objectives and Program Backlogs

  • Ensures backlogs are managed in accordance with defined standards

  • Tracks the execution of features and capabilities

  • Facilitates roadmap development

  • Supports inter- and intra-team dependency mapping

  • Prepares for and facilitates Program Increment (PI) Planning and overall management of the Program Increment

  • Communicates iteration and PI calendar

  • Supports the effective execution of Agile ceremonies

  • Encourages cross-functional collaboration across ARTs in Training Systems and supporting organizations

  • Facilitates synchronization events, including the ART syncs, communities of practice and Product Owner/Scrum Master Sync

  • Works with Product Management, Product Owners, Scrum Masters and other stakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment

  • Help manage risks and dependencies

  • Escalate and track impediments

  • Ensure standards are established and followed

  • Monitor and improve metrics for the ART

  • Manage and optimize the flow of the ART

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent, required from an accredited institution

  • 3+ years of experience with Scaled Agile Framework or Agile Methodologies

  • 3+ years of experience with Agile delivery and metrics

  • 3+ years of experience in Program Management Best Practices

  • 3+ years of experience in Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint

  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role

  • Ability to travel occasionally (10%) may be required in support of the program and customer

  • Agile/SAFe training and/or certification, for example:

    • SAFe Program Consultant (SPC)

    • SAFe Release Train Engineer Certification (RTE)

    • SAFe Scum Master (SSM)

    • Project Management Institute- Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Familiarity with VersionOne

  • Experience in negotiation

  • Critical thinking skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Typical Education & Experience: 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
