The Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA), SoCal Advanced Concepts organization is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer (Level 4) to join our team in Long Beach, CA. The advanced concepts team develops future aircraft concepts and technologies for the commercial aviation market!

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and mentoring to emerging systems engineers

  • Define requirements for aircraft, systems, and systems of systems

  • Concept of Operations (CONOPS) development

  • Functional architecture and decomposition

  • Perform aircraft level trade studies as part of a multidisciplinary conceptual aircraft design team

  • Risk Issue and Opportunity Identification and tracking

  • Technology readiness level evaluation and tracking

  • Present findings to leadership

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.

  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.

  • Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture.

  • Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.

  • Develops, maintains and identifies improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.

  • Resolves cross-functional technical issues.

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.  
 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience):

  • Bachelors of Science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry, or other technical degree

  • 3+ years of experience with systems architecture

  • 3+ years of experience in requirements development and management

  • 3+ years of years of experience with trade study and/or systems analysis

  • Effective written and verbal communication across diverse audiences

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills / Experience):

  • 10+ years of experience in job related duties

  • Experience with aircraft development programs

  • Experience with model-based systems engineering tools, such as CAMEO

  • Experience in aircraft systems (electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, data)

  • Experience in hardware development and test or flight test programs

  • Experience effectively at bringing diverse stakeholders together to accomplish common goals

  • Experience presenting to senior leadership up to the executive level

Typical Education:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
