BR&T is seeking a Senior/Lead Component Engineer to join the Component Engineering (CE) team supporting the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) program in Huntsville, Alabama. The successful candidate will support space, missile systems, and aircraft avionics. This role will act as the Lead Engineer of multiple satellite programs and  a component engineering functional organization. The successful candidate in this role will have experience working with passive components (such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, magnetics, relays, switches), Radio Frequency (RF) components (such as circulators, isolators, monolithic microwave integrated circuits, crystals, oscillators), and Active Components (such as integrated circuits, diodes, transistors, hybrids).

The Component Engineering (CE) team supports space, missile systems, and aircraft avionics.  The CE team supports programs by reviewing and approving the selection of electronic components, qualifying electronic components for the applications in which they will be used,  supporting the manufacture of components both in-house and at suppliers, conducting failure analysis and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) as part of anomaly investigations, creating and revising specifications for components, and supporting subcontractor and suppliers to ensure electronic components are qualified for Boeing usage per the contract and the Parts, Materials and Processes (PMP) Plan.  

Successful candidates will have experience working with military and industry specifications as applicable to electrical components and electrical materials used in the fabrication and design of circuit card assemblies. Candidate should have the ability to work independently and respond rapidly to customer and program needs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates definition of complex requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the manufacture and engineering design of products and approves their use
  • Establishes standards for specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, materials, parts and processes
  • Represents the company on technical committees to develop and revise industry standards
  • Promotes standardization across the company
  • Leads evaluation of emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
  • Establishes standards to qualify new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
  • Leads integration of new technologies
  • Reviews and approves test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
  • Coordinates complex analysis to determine performance or reasons for failures of tools, materials, parts or processes
  • Coordinates broadly based corrective and preventive actions
  • Leads design, development and qualification of sophisticated computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements
  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical and schedule requirements. Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas
  • Leads others, establishes work statement, defines strategies and/or provides consultation with peers while keeping management informed

This position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location. On-site work will be at a minimum of 2 days per week.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering
  • 15+ years of experience engineering
  • NASA and space hardware experience
  • Experience leading teams
  • Experience collaborating with subcontractors & suppliers
  • Experience with failure analysis, electrical M&P, and radiation effects (natural & weapon environments) on Electrical, Electronic, and Electro-mechanical (EEE) parts used in space
  • Experience with man-space, military, NASA, and commercial aircraft applications

Typical Education/Experience: 
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
