Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA), Service Engineering - Avionics Training Center (ATC) is currently seeking a Mid-Level Lab Operations Engineer/Project Manager with advanced and/or broad knowledge of Boeing avionics systems test and evaluation processes and engineering principles. As a Mid-level Lab Operations Engineer/Project Manager you will be working with other avionics engineers and technicians to support the development and operations of avionics simulators and test benches (e.g. 737, 747, 777, 787, etc.) used by BCA Service Engineering for commercial airplanes avionics troubleshooting and training purposes. In this position, you will plan and schedule the day to day activities for simulator and test bench development and functionality to ensure timely system integration and compliance with requirements. You will solve problems and provide other support of simulator and test bench hardware and software for the entire center and create/maintain the documentation, such as parts lists, operation manuals, wiring diagrams, and other documents essential to the use and maintainability of the Avionics Training Center.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development, operation, and maintainability of the Avionics Training Center (ATC).
  • Leads analysis and translation of complex ATC requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications.
  • Develops and implements product/process improvements.
  • Works with others to develop training programs and skills development strategies.
  • Identifies the need for technical training in the operation of the ATC Benches.
  • Coordinates and manages training development/updates and schedule.
  • Solves problems concerning, and provides other support of, ATC hardware and software over the entire lifecycle.
  • Assists design and/or provides electrical/avionics systems analysis of interim and final engineering solutions to return airplanes back to revenue service.
  • Oversees documentation of aircraft hardware and software related problems.
  • Participates in and leads team activities for on-site support of in-service product issues.
  • Recognized as a business unit-wide expert in qualification, physical and functional integration and installation design and resolving ATC and technical issues.
  • Manage all the capital equipment (benches, VME eq), LRUs (aircraft controllers, components) and test equipment.
  • Conducts ATC program independent reviews and reports results to program leadership.
  • Schedule time on the simulators and test benches for various customers.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Do you have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an engineering or science related field?
  • Are you willing to work variable shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime?
  • 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering and/or Avionics?
  • 5+ years of experience with commercial airplanes or commercial derivatives?

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Systems troubleshooting with avionics experience.
  • Flight Simulator Experience.
  • Experience working in or managing an Avionics Lab facility.
  • Experience performing aircraft integration, test, and evaluation.
  • Experience with Boeing 7-series airplane models is preferred.

Education/ Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
