Boeing Global Services (BGS) F-22 is seeking an F-22 System Safety Engineer individual to perform System Safety Engineering activities as part of a team where cutting edge technology really matters in Berkeley, MO (St. Louis, MO).


Our Engineers work in a highly dynamic environment developing the United States Air Force (USAF) F-22 Raptor.   Supporting the F-22 program, you will play a key role supporting our armed forces and America's defense. 

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.

  • Evaluates customer and /operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.

  • Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture.

  • Providing analysis and participation in safety/accident investigations, crisis management teams, airworthiness impact assessments, fleet support requests, Equipment Operation Flight Clearance
    determination, safety notifications, OFP software safety and certification, and engineering design Support the safety of the Mission Avionics on the 757 Flying Test Bed.

  • Team members represent system safety to F-22 business partners and the USAF customer in all safety communications, such as safety assessments, System Safety Group meetings, and weekly customer meetings.

  • Coordinate closely with F22 Air Vehicle Systems, Structures, Training, and Mission Systems teams to ensure systems safety for the program. This position will report directly to the F22 Chief Engineer.

  • Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.

  • Develops the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes. Resolves cross-functional technical issues. 

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry

  • 3+ years of experience with engineering of large-scale systems and overall systems engineering disciplines

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience with one or more BGS programs/services, safety review board, and/or safety reporting tools

  • Currently holds an active Secret Clearance

  • 3+ years of experience with System Safety Analyses, FHAs (Functional Hazard Assessment), FMEA's (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), threats (Particular Risk Analyses), cascading effects analysis like Single & Multiple Failure, and Fault Trees

  • Experience with aerospace systems engineering and safety engineering, together with the ability to make recommendations (process improvements, information technology opportunities, etc.) to further the goals of the organization

  • Military experience, software safety, environmental/hazardous material management, and familiarity with Air Force Safety processes, while not required is desirable

  • Experience taking initiative and leading cross functional teams and complex projects

  • A passion for aerospace safety

Typical Education & Experience:

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
