Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking a Senior Interiors Structural/ Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 4) to join our Interiors Responsibility Center South Carolina (IRCSC) team based in North Charleston, SC.

In this role you will lead a team on the development and release of interior components. Your work will include the need to interface with teams in the following fields: project engineering, production engineering, program/product teams, management, and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions. You will be able to combine the expertise and resources of the interiors organization to engineer the best interiors products within the industry.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develops, integrates and documents structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.
  • Develops, maintains and modifies structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods.
  • Provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Leads performance, integration and analysis of tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
  • Leads investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs and innovations to meet projected requirements.
  • Ability to communicate professionally across multiple organizations and/or throughout all levels of leadership.
  • Works under minimal direction.

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelors of Science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry, or other technical degree.
  • 5+ years of experience with CATIA
  • 5+ years of experience in program or project management.
  • 5+ years of experience leading project and/or program proposals of varying complexity. (including: development and execution of schedule milestones, financial assessments, resource assessments, risk and/or issues management, etc.).
  • Experience leading a cross-functional team.
  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace engineering, design criteria and engineering release processes.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Demonstrates good problem solving skills and critical thinking
  • 10+ years of experience with 3D modeling (Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks, SketchUp, Pro-E, Catia, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of standard business software (MS Office Suite)
  • Ability to use a variety of media to clearly convey information and ideas to a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated interest in continuous personal learning and development
  • Ability to meet plan delivery deadlines when assigned
  • Experience in aerospace interiors, materials and properties, design criteria and release processes
  • Strong understanding and demonstrated experience with FAA Title 14 Part 25 and/or EASA equivalent.

Typical Education/Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
