The Boeing Defense, Space and Security, Space and Launch Systems is seeking an Associate Spacecraft Command and Data Handling (C&DH) Engineer that will develop and manage C&DH systems for Boeing satellite programs. Typical assignments will include requirements definition and flowdown, systems design and analysis, systems integration, test, and verification. The engineer will be responsible for resolution of technical issues and ensuring hardware and software are flight worthy prior to delivery. They will work with senior management and technical experts across multiple disciplines including subsystem engineering, software architecture, software validation, Communications Security (COMSEC), electronic hardware testing, spacecraft level testing, and end to end system engineering. This position is located in El Segundo, CA.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops optimal subsystem designs, performs requirements definition and flowdown, creates operational concepts and products, develops interface requirements, and performs verification and validation
  • Performs trade studies to meet program requirements.
  • Performs analyses to evaluate and optimize total system performance to meet customer operation requirements.
  • Resolves technical issues and ensuring the spacecraft and system are flight worthy prior to delivery.
  • Develops solutions with cross-functional teams to assure mission success and presents those findings to customer and senior management

Work Authorization:

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace
  • Experience working in aerospace, defense, or similar high-tech industry

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience developing solutions to complex technical problems
  • Strong communication (both written and verbal)
  • Experience working with CCSDS and IP (Internet Protocol)
  • Experience working with 1553, SpaceWire, CAN, or Ethernet 
  • Experience working with MATLAB and VBA tool development

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
