Boeing Defense Space & Security has a unique opportunity for a Lead RF Communications System Design Engineer (Level 4) to join our Experimental Systems Group (ESG) located in Seal Beach, CA.

Here at ESG, we support a variety of government customers spanning technology domains, in a very fast-paced, responsive development environment delivering new capabilities to customers rapidly and affordably. The ESG portfolio consists of a range of platforms and technologies. We collaborate with leaders in space innovation and pave the way in creating the world’s best innovative products. You will work with a diversely skilled RF Comm design team while also having the ability to work assignments autonomously. You will be an authority in space innovation.

This position will allow you to work with customers to develop and detail sophisticated electronic and electrical system requirements. You will lead and coordinate the analysis and translation of requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications. As well as work to test and validate communication subsystems to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements. You will have the opportunity to find solutions in support of fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle and research technology advances for potential application to company business needs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads work with customers to develop and document complex electronic and electrical system requirements

  • Leads all aspects of the design and build of multiple satellite and avionics units

  • Leads and coordinates work to analyze and translate requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications

  • Supervises work to test and validate to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements

  • Performs link budgets and system performance analysis

  • Knowledge of multi-discipline integrating issues applicable to communications and network systems, including primary characteristics such as physical and functional interfaces, communications reliability, link availability, and environmental constraints

  • Supervises supplier performance to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements

  • Solves problems concerning and provides other support of fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle

  • Researches technology advances for potential application to company business needs

  • Makes recommendations for technology investments

  • Performs trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict performance and to optimize design around sophisticated requirements

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Seal Beach, CA.

This position requires a current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in RF/Microwave engineering

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 10 or more years of experience in RF/Microwave engineering

  • Experience with digital/RF communications circuit design

  • Experience with digital/RF communications hardware and lab equipment

  • Knowledge of FPGAs/ASICs

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.
