Boeing Defense Space and Security (BDS) is looking for an Associate Software Safety Systems Engineer to join the Systems Safety team on the MQ-25 program. The MQ-25 Stingray will be the world’s first operational, carrier-based autonomous aircraft that provides aerial refueling and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to the US Navy Carrier Air Wing and Carrier Strike Group. The MQ-25 program team is located in Hazelwood, MO.

As a member of the Systems Safety engineering team, this individual will be working closely with the other program teams (software engineering, systems engineering, design, production, integration, testing, and product support) to identify all potential hazards and to develop associated mitigation for incorporation into the final design. This position best suited for someone with strong critical thinking skill, works well in a team with varied strengths' environment, ability to apply Seek, Speak and Listen methodology to efficiently connect with teammates and customers.  Strong written and verbal communication is also an important part of this assignment.  Some travel will be required to support customer needs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced systems of system and system solutions

  • Evaluate customer and /operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces

  • Perform various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture

  • Perform analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success

  • Develop the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes

  • Resolve multi-functional technical issues

This position allows telecommuting.  The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry or other technical degree

  • Experience with software development processes such as requirements, software design, documentation and configuration control

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with Software Development lifecycle (including Requirements Analysis, Design, Code, Integration & Test

  • Experience with software utilized on air vehicle, avionics, weapons or mission systems

  • Experience as a software, safety or systems engineer or equivalent

Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
