The Northwest Flight Test Data Systems Team is looking for a Mid-Level Embedded Software Engineer to develop and maintain tools used to test Boeing aircraft at the Seattle, WA location.

Team member will work with hardware and software systems that aggregate test data from multiple aircraft sensors, perform real-time calculations, display results to test crews, record the test data, and maintain data archive systems for post-test analysis. Additionally, the employee will need to develop instrumentation and data-system software, integrate software with hardware platforms, develop system tests, and perform systems integration testing. Demonstrate new capabilities to end users.

Position responsibilities

  • Works with customers to develop and document complex electronic and electrical system requirements

  • Analyzes and translates requirements into system, hardware and software designs and interface specifications

  • Tests and validates to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements. Monitors supplier performance to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements

  • Solves problems concerning and provides other support of fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle

  • Researches specific technology advances for potential application to company business needs

  • Designing and implementing software of embedded devices and systems

  • Analyzing and enhancing efficiency, stability and scalability of system resources

  • Designing, developing, coding, testing and debugging system software

This position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location. On-site work will be at a minimum 3 of 5 days per week.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Programming experience in experience C/C++ coding or java/python script development

  • Experience in developing, documenting and maintaining complex architectures, requirements, algorithms, software-to-hardware interfaces and designs for software systems

  • 3+ years of experience designing, developing, coding, testing and debugging system software

  • 3+ years of experience in software architecture and design of embedded software systems

  • 3+ years of experience with Linux and Windows operation systems

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Additional software development languages & tools: PSQL, Docker, Httpd, Django, Perl, Redis, Celery, Simulink, LabVIEW, Jenkins, Node.js, Wireshark, VirtualBox

  • Experience with Boeing tools: ADAMS, FTCS, OAPI, Ampex Recorder, DAPs, LADS, PSIM, Artifactory, Quickview, Redars

  • Software DevOps tools and methodologies: Agile, GitLab, CI/CD, Kubernetes

  • Linux system configuration and package management experience on RedHat, Oracle, Debian, or Ubuntu Linux systems

  • Experience with Kickstart, Ansible, Virtual Machines

  • Instrumentation and data systems experience: acquisition hardware, sensor calibration, time synchronization, network typologies, real-time data processing and visualization, recording

  • Familiarity with flight-test methodologies and aircraft certification requirements

  • Aircraft data-bus and data-system I/O protocols: DAR, Analog, ARINC 429, ARINC 664, CAN, 1553, IMB

  • Contribute to the creation of new distributed components and interactions that align with the future system architecture along with the required DevOps 

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
