This position is part of the EO/IR Mission Systems team within BR&T. The focus of this team is to provide next-generation capabilities to Boeing and its customers through the development of cutting-edge sensor systems, and the key technologies that enable those systems. Systems range from airborne EO/IR systems to space payloads. The team is focused on providing complete solutions, including systems engineering, optics design, algorithms, software development, FPGA/firmware development, and electronics. As part of BR&T, the primary focus is on prototype systems and demonstrations, so we’re looking for people who like to try new things, and aren’t afraid of a challenge!

We are seeking digital design, verification, and implementation engineers in Huntington Beach, CA with experience with advanced knowledge and skills in state of the art algorithm and firmware design and implementation for sensing systems. The candidate will be expected to design and simulate algorithm performance and then convert the algorithms into hardware systems for test and verification. Specifically targeted technical skills include: digital signals processing for sensing applications; embedded software development; algorithm design and simulation; FPGA implementation with VHDL; and familiarity with MATLAB and Simulink.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Development and optimization of firmware for FPGAs, running advanced algorithms in firmware for real-time data processing
  • Design and Optimization of processing and firmware architectures
  • Write and optimize HDL code for FPGAs
  • Technical reports and presentations to customers and senior leadership.

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Confidential Clearance Post-Start is required

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):  

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 2+ years of experience researching, developing, or evaluating electromagnetic effects requirements
  • Experience with developing and executing tests to validate system functionality against specifications
  • Experience developing firmware for embedded applications (FPGA, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): 

  • Active security clearance
  • Experience with design and implementation of real-time software, gateware, firmware for digital communications and / or signal processing algorithms
  • Experience with project management type duties
  • Experience with HDL coding for Xilinx FPGAs
  • Experience Autocoding from Simulink
  • Cybersecurity experience

Typical Education/Experience:  Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
