Boeing Phantom Works creates the next generation products and services for the Boeing Defense, Space & Security business and is currently looking for an Experienced EO (Electro-Optical) Payload Analyst and Algorithms/Processing/Controls Engineer to join their team in El Segundo, CA.

We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space.  Phantom Works focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers.  Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

We are seeking an Experienced EO Payloads and Algorithms/Processing/Controls Engineer with experience in EO sensors, satellite systems, and lasers to work in a rapid development environment.

This engineer will participate in all phases of system development life cycle:

  • Early stages of concept development of mission, constellation architecture, and payload capabilities, and associated enabling internal R&D

  • Customer interactions and response to request for information and proposals

  • System and payload requirements definition, performance analysis, hardware and software design, algorithm development, risk management, integration and test, on-orbit verification, and support to on-going mission operations, sustainment, and upgrades/adaptations

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and fielding of simulations used to develop, analyze, integrate and test high performance passive and active (laser) electro-optical sensing systems for air and space-borne systems.

  • Work in small Agile teams composed of diverse engineering skills and will be expected to use their talents to tackle complex problems on a variety of programs.

  • Perform modeling, simulation, and analysis to support hardware and algorithm design trades, requirements compliance, and performance verification and trouble-shooting of fielded systems.  This will include both utilizing existing models and building new models that range from physics-based payload to higher level system-of-system performance. Depending on the application, metrics include for example: SNR, image resolution and quality, probability of target detection and track accuracy, sensor pointing control accuracy, surveillance coverage statistics, and processing and communication latencies. Analysis involve platform-to-target engagement position and attitude geometry aspects including aircraft, ballistic missiles, orbital, and guidance navigation and control for space rendezvous operations.

  • Types of systems include:  conventional EO surveillance and reconnaissance, OPIR,  multi- and hyper-spectral and 3D LADAR, active laser based systems, non-conventional such as optical Synthetic Aperture Ladar (SAL/SAR) and vibrometry.

  • Developing technical products, plans, documentation, and briefings in support of program requirements.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).  A final U.S. top secret clearance Post Start is required.
