Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS) is seeking a Senior Vehicle Systems Engineer (Level 5) to support the team near Tukwila, WA. The team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with both commercial and proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space.  Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

This exciting systems engineer position will work on emerging programs developing the next-generation technologies in space. The ideal candidate is passionate about space and excited to work in a multi-disciplined, collaborative engineering environment to design, develop and implement control and communications software for Boeing satellites.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of Systems Engineers.
  • Develop and maintain requirements for innovative new projects.
  • Develop use cases and sequence diagrams.
  • Develop and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for complex space and ground architectures.
  • Analyze, verify, and validate performance of hardware and software components in a space system.
  • Support planning for and execution of subsystem and vehicle-level integration and test campaign.
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines in an integrated team environment to develop system architecture in compliance with interface definitions and system/subsystem requirements.
  • Support stakeholder needs through analysis, technical performance measures (TPM) definition, requirements analysis, and allocation & definition for subcontractors, utilizing Cameo, JIRA and Confluence.
  • Develop requirements verification plan, including coordination of required tests for space systems.
  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
  • Leads others to evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Leads analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture.
  • Leads analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
  • Leads, develops, maintains and identifies improvements the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry AND 9 or more years’ of related work experience OR an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (Ex 1: PhD, Masters + 4 years’ or more related work experience. Ex. 2: Masters + 7 years’ or more related work experience)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Active U.S. TS/SCI Security Clearance (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).
  • Experience with spacecraft and/or space systems architecture
  • Experience in development, build and test of spacecraft
  • Experience utilizing Model Based Engineering (MBE or MBSE) tools
  • Technical education or experience in space vehicle engineering disciplines
  • Experience working across multiple disciplines in a rapid development environment
  • Experience with requirements development, verification, validation, ICDs, risk, issues and opportunities management and trade studies

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
