Boeing Defense, Space, & Security (BDS) is seeking a Rotorcraft Flying Qualities Math Modeling /Simulation Expert to join the Flight Technology Group as part of the Vertical Lift Division. We participate in all phases of the design, test, and support of the Apache, AH-6, Chinook, V-22, and developmental rotorcraft. The ideal candidate for this position has significant technical experience and expertise in rotorcraft handling qualities assessment, flight simulation math modeling, and stability assessment.
 

This position is located in either Mesa, AZ or Ridley Park, PA supporting both sites.

The ideal candidate exhibits an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness and is recognized as a rotorcraft math modeling/simulation expert in Industry. Responsibilities/skills for this position include:

Position Responsibilities

  • Develops and validates physics-based linear and non-linear flight simulation models that include mathematical models of various rotorcraft components (main rotor, tail rotor, fuselage, etc.) and participates in wind-tunnel/flight testing to support simulation model validation for several different platforms

  • Analyzes air vehicle stability, flight control system design and performance characteristics to ensure acceptable handling qualities in compliance with specifications

  • Provides oversight and develops test plans, provides flight test support, and reviews technical documents

  • Leads and collaborates with Flying Qualities teammates and helps guide the design of new and modified rotorcraft configurations for optimal stability, control, and handling qualities

  • Interfaces regularly with Program leadership and performs analyses to respond to competitive bid proposals

  • Expertise with tools such as Matlab/Simulink, Mathematica, and has significant experience with C++/Fortran

  • Expertise with major rotorcraft simulation tools in the US Rotorcraft Industry

  • Collaborates with test pilots and engineers in other disciplines such as flight controls, aerodynamics, dynamics, avionics systems, and structural design to optimize vehicle characteristics

  • Enjoys training/mentoring other team members

  • Excellent communication and team building skills

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Approximately 25% travel is required to support Boeing Enterprise Vertical Lift Programs

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. & 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering field

  • 15+ years’ experience with modeling/simulation for rotorcraft

Typical Education/Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years' related work experience, Master+18 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
