Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking an Lead Propulsion Controls Engineer to join the Flight Science team in the St. Louis, MO area.

This is an exciting opportunity to perform propulsion statement of work for new product design, development and integration projects in the areas of Fixed Wing Aircraft and/or Missile Systems.

The Flight Engineering Capability supports the business in all aspects of the product life cycle with propulsion engineering design, analysis, testing, integration, demonstration and certification. This position will serve as a propulsion controls focal of a technical team of engineers in the areas of propulsion performance, installation, design and analysis, test, and qualification of flight vehicles and their propulsion components.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform engine controls integration and verification.

  • Work with engine companies, vehicle management system, mission systems, systems engineering, and propulsion personnel to assure engine electronic controls are properly integrated, checked out in systems integration labs, and validated with aircraft software for flight suitability.

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform the majority of work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 7+ years of experience in an engineering discipline

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Active Secret Clearance

  • Engine operation and control modes familiarity along with failure modes and effects and reversionary mode handling basic knowledge

  • Experience with engine performance simulation and installations as well as transient models

  • Strong computer skills for operating in computer simulation and hardware-in-loop lab environments.

  • Familiarity with problem reporting, tracking, and resolution software.

  • Familiarity with digital communications and message protocols, analog sensors and signal processing

  • Automation of verification tasking to improve accuracy and speed of software validation.

  • General propulsion system integration and airworthiness process support knowledge

  • Strong communicator with ability to work effectively with multiple teams in a fast paced environment.

  • Attention to detail and precision

Typical Education/Experience:

Typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
