The Boeing Company has an exciting opportunity on the F/A-18 Core Avionics Team for an Avionics Chief Engineer (Level 5) that will have technical oversight of Displays, Recorders, Core Processors, Navigation, Communication, Identification, Data Link, and Mission Computer Equipment on the F/A-18 program located in St. Louis, MO.  This position falls within the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Bomber & Fighters organization. This position will work closely with internal Boeing leadership, USN/DCMA customers and various suppliers to incorporate equipment updates and engineering changes to meet contract requirements and support fleet needs.

The successful candidate will be a strong leader who is passionate about technical execution and continuous improvement. They should be assertive with a drive for excellence.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor Avionics Equipment Engineers and Project/Program Managers

  • Lead Hardware Development program execution including requirements development, program reviews, qualification testing, and transition to production.

  • Provide experienced technical and programmatic leadership

  • Work with engineering team members to ensure hardware delivery commitments are met for both the F/A-18 aircraft production line, as well as non A/C On Time Deliverable contractual requirements.

  • Monitor supplier performance to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements

  • Support production and fleet with issue resolution for delivered hardware and software over the entire product life cycle.

This position currently allows a flexible schedule of telecommuting and onsite work. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite.

Export Control:

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • Experience with electrical design engineering

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience as a technical lead for an engineering team

  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM)

  • Experience with the design, development, and integration of complex electronic systems or subsystems

  • Experience working with avionics systems

  • Experience with development of avionics requirements, designs, and design analysis

  • Able to travel 10% of the time

  • Experience interfacing and presenting data to upper level management, Program Managers, Military customers, and suppliers

  • Thorough knowledge and proficiency in all technical areas in accordance with Defense Industry project management standards

Typical Education:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or
more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the
preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
