Boeing Commercial Airplanes in Long Beach, CA is seeking Experienced Electrical System Design Engineers in the area of Electrical Subsystem – Lighting, Electrical Subsystem – Power and/or Equipment Manager to join the team in defining and integrating airplane electrical systems across our commercial fleet. This position will support modification and out of production fleet support projects, working with aircraft systems from type design changes through certification and implementation.

These positions may be assigned to work with:


Electrical Subsystems such as electrical lighting system (exterior lights, emergency lights, interiors lighting, etc.) and/or electrical power system (batteries, generators, power distributions, electrical load analysis, etc.).

Equipment manager includes qualification/certification of commodities such as non-IFE electrical components in seat, galley electrical components and inserts, and electrical equipment and components associated with Electrical subsystems.

This position is expected to be virtual, Hybrid, and Onsite based on statement of work.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with customers (internal and external) to develop and document electronic and electrical system requirements.

  • Review system level changes and impact, wire diagrams, functional schematics, etc.

  • Analyzes and translates requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications.

  • Write and review system description and compliance documents (Specification Control Documents, qualification documents, etc.).

  • Resolve service related issues.

  • Preparation of test procedures to verify system operational and functional requirements.

  • Must possess good organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to adjust priorities to multiple demands and unanticipated events.

  • Some travel might be required for on-site testing at the supplier facilities, presentations to customers and on-site troubleshooting support.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.  

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's of Science degree or higher from an accredited course of study in an engineering discipline, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

  • The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):  

  • 6 or more years of experience with design engineering.

  • Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering degree.

  • Experience within Electrical Subsystems design with familiarity of engineering processes and methods.

  • Knowledge of FAA regulations and certification.

  • Clear understanding and expertise in Electrical lighting system and/or Electrical Power systems.

  • Experience with DO-160 and DO-178B industry requirements.

  • Experience working with cross functional teams.

Typical Education/ Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
