Boeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) is seeking an experienced Propulsion Systems Engineer for the X-37B program at Kennedy Space Center, FL. Objectives of the X-37B program include space experimentation, risk reduction, and concept of operations development.

Managed by Experimental Systems Group (ESG), a unit of Boeing Space and Launch Systems, the X-37B is a flexible, affordable and responsive platform balancing the characteristics of a spacecraft and an aircraft. A unit of The Boeing Company and headquartered in St. Louis, BDS is one of the world's largest defense, space and security businesses specializing in innovative and capabilities-driven customer solutions, and the world's largest and most versatile producer of military aircraft and commercial/civil/government space systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and execute spacecraft component and system level tests, with focus on propulsion systems.

  • Provide technical leadership for the execution of hazardous fueling operations on a spacecraft.

  • Provide leadership for the propulsion servicing team, consisting of engineers, technicians, quality and safety.

  • Evaluate customer and operational needs to define and coordinate system functional and performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.

  • Coordinate across multiple engineering organizations and disciplines for planning, preparations and execution of spacecraft tests.

  • Develop spacecraft system test plans, procedures, execution schedules, post-test reports, etc.

  • Define requirements for facility and ground support equipment, and ensure availability and readiness to support testing.

  • Document and investigate test discrepancies/anomalies.

  • Support Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and participate in design reviews.

This position requires an active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.) Position contingent on being granted program security access/clearance.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or related technical discipline.

  • Five (5) or more years of experience with spacecraft integration and test including associated flight and ground hardware, software, procedures and facilities, with a focus on propulsion systems test and servicing.

  • An active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance and a Tier 5 (SSBI) Investigation completed within the last 5 years is required pre-start.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Excellent communication skills. Experience briefing information to internal and customer management.

  • Experience with CWA and clean room protocols preferred.

  • Experience with complex systems integration and test preferred.

Typical Education / Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 10 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation: This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Basic relocation is available for internal candidates.
