Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS) is seeking motivated, talented, and experienced Systems Engineers to join the Weapons Systems Engineering Team in Saint Charles, Missouri. There are multiple positions for a wide range of systems engineering roles available.

  

The Missiles and Weapons Systems (MWS) organization is dynamic and growing with a leadership team focused on attracting and developing top talent in support of critical missions on Direct Attack (DA) and Cruise Missiles Systems (CMS) programs. Connected to our customers' missions, we deliver unique capability through our exceptional talent.  The programs that we support in Saint Charles, Missouri include Direct Attack weapons (JDAM, SDB, MOP, HAAWC and associated derivatives) and Cruise Missiles (SLAM ER, Harpoon legacy and development weapons) utilized on various Military Aircraft and some Ground-Based Platforms.

Systems Engineering, System Integration, Design Integration Responsibilities May Include:

  • Perform and lead analysis to optimize total system and/or system architecture to solve complex Weapon and Weapon Systems defense problems.
  • Apply and lead interdisciplinary, collaborative approaches to plan, design, develop and verify system solutions.
  • Define and coordinate system performance requirements and integrate technical parameters.
  • Define high level functional and performance requirements and verification methods, subsequent analysis, decomposition, and derivation of requirements, allocation of those lower-level requirements to physical and functional architectural elements, and tracking them through design, verification, integration, and operational validation
  • Develop verification and validation methods, processes, logic, and plans in support of program milestones.
  • Lead development and documentation of electronic and electrical system requirements
  • Lead and perform circuit design (PWB layout, thermal analyses, power analyses, EMI analyses)
  • Lead analysis of requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications
  • Lead and perform software development, software and test integration
  • Test and validate to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements
  • Perform analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, survivability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance, product security (cyber security) and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.

Systems and Performance Analysis, Model & Sim, Algorithm Development Responsibilities May Include:

  • Evaluate systems under various scenarios and architectures to determine and/or optimize overall weapon performance in a framework giving insight into performance
  • Develop and maintain analysis tools of varied fidelity including modeling and simulation tools to predict performance against evolving threats of current and future weapon systems
  • Lead development and documentation of key algorithm capabilities to support various DoD customers

Model Based Engineering / Systems Engineering Responsibilities May Include:

  • Development of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, processes and architectures
  • Configuration, data and work flow management of program specific MBSE tools and processes
  • Establishment of protocol / process for integration of engineering tools with MBSE

Examples of current open positions / statement of work:

DA and CMS Programs:

  • As a technical SME and lead, work with all product development teams, to develop, track, and mature system level and team level requirements, interface control documents, requirement verification methods, verification approach and verification success criteria.
  • As a technical lead, perform design and analysis of Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) systems including modeling and development of Six Degree of Freedom (6DOF) simulations, as well as optimal flight control, flight trajectory guidance and target state estimation algorithm development.
  • As a technical lead, define system performance requirements and ensure interface definition supports various functional components of complex Weapon systems.

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Technical Bachelor's, Master's or a PhD degree (A technical degree is defined as any four-year degree, or greater, in a mathematic, scientific or information technology field of study)
  • 3+ years of experience in systems engineering
  • Experience working both independently and in team environments

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience applying and teaching systems engineering processes and principles
  • Experience/domain knowledge of system architecture, requirements, interface definition, verification, and validation 
  • Experience with complex systems development and integration
  • Experience modeling or simulating complex systems
  • Experience with implementation and maintenance of systems engineering tools, schedules and metrics (i.e. Earned value management, DOORs, CAMEO)
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering
  • Understanding of statistical analysis, distributions, and sampling
  • Demonstrated use and knowledge of SysML
  • Understanding of DoDAF, UAF

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+3 years’, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
