Boeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) has a great opportunity for a Lead Aerodynamics – Air Data Engineer to join the Flight Engineering team in the St. Louis, MO area.

Boeing is recruiting for a Lead Aerodynamics engineer working in the area of Air Data to perform statement of work for new product design, development and integration for air data in the areas of Fixed Wing Aircraft and/or Missiles Systems. 

The Flight Engineering Capability supports the business in all aspects of the product life cycle with aerodynamic engineering design, analysis, testing, integration, demonstration and certification. This position will serve as a key member of a technical team of aerodynamic engineers and will focus on the areas of air data system design, integration, and flight safety in the design and analysis of flight vehicles and their components for defense applications.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads, plans and performs aerodynamic/aero thermodynamic design and analysis of flight vehicles to ensure that the vehicle meets requirements.

  • Works with air data system fundamentals, analyses, development, and qualification. 

  • Performs source error correction and inverse source error correction processes to support reduced vertical separation minimums requirements and methods of compliance. 

  • Leads the development of new and improving existing technologies, tools and processes to enhance technology readiness, improve vehicle performance and reduce cycle time and cost.

  • Plans, conducts, coordinates and/or develops test requirements and evaluates test results to ensure compliance with requirements.

  • Develops Boeing responses to proposed regulations that impact cost, performance, producibility, maintainability and safety.

  • Trains and coaches others.

Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; Domestically depending on business needs.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 7+ years of experience in Aerodynamics Engineering

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Active U.S. Security Clearance highly preferred

  • Experience with air data system fundamentals, analyses, development, and qualification.

  • Knowledge of source error correction and inverse source error correction processes.

  • Familiar with reduced vertical separation minimums [RVSM] requirements and methods of compliance.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Experience using Matlab and/or Python.

  • Strong skills using Neural Networks or other machine learning software.

  • Flight test and flight test data analysis experience

  • Experience with aerodynamic analysis principles, processes, methods, and tools for flight vehicles.

  • Experience with certification and/or qualification processes and procedures, including general knowledge of governing regulations and compliance requirements.

Typical Education/Experience

Typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
