Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has a great opportunity for a Lead Guidance Navigation and Control (GN&C) Engineer with a proven track record of leadership, expertise and success to join Boeing in the St. Louis, MO area.

The selected candidate will work on an exciting proprietary program that is growing rapidly. You will have the opportunity to be involved from the beginning of the design cycle and personally contribute to the development of a next-generation platform in the form of state of the art GN&C control system development, performance analysis and simulations. In addition, there will be visibility across the Boeing enterprise into modern GN&C and simulation development methods.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with managers and stakeholders on project milestone timelines and provide guidance and mentoring to team

  • Define Guidance, Navigation and Control (GN&C) requirements and ensure requirements traceability and quality from the system level to component level

  • Use multidisciplinary model data (aero, mass properties, propulsion, etc.) to develop and refine a complex, nonlinear, 6 degrees of freedom simulation model

  • Design flight control laws using modern linear control design techniques and tools to achieve design and performance targets

  • Work with flight simulation and Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) software engineers to incorporate control laws into the operational flight program

  • Support pilot evaluations in the manned flight simulations, hardware in the loop testing, and flight testing

  • Oversee trade studies and offer guidance and expertise to identify design solutions

  • Oversee design reviews, analyses, simulations and component/system testing

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires an active U.S. Active Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 14+ year of experience in an engineering related role (12+ years of experience with a Master's degree or 9+ years with a PhD)

  • 9+ years of experience in Guidance, Navigation & Controls (GN&C) engineering

  • 5+ years of experience using Matlab/Simulink or MatrixX to model systems

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with simulation, system and component modeling

  • Experience with implementing algorithms in real time systems

  • Hardware in the Loop Simulator (HILS) experience

Typical Education / Experience:

Typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
