Within BR&T’s Mission System Technologies (MST) organization, Boeing’s Advanced Computing Technology (ACT) team performs innovation, design and technology maturation of advanced computing technologies and their associated subordinate technologies.

This exciting position requires experience in control system development and implementation, utilizing and leveraging industrial process control systems with Programmable Logic Controllers. Demonstrated critical thinking and troubleshooting skills are also required.

Position will include responsibility for configuring the lab test environment and for supporting development of lab operations documentation. The successful candidate will learn how the various lab test systems integrate together and will help to develop the lab operations planning and associated process control environment planning. Inclusive of highly automated industrial systems and the supporting programming necessary for the operation of equipment and machinery used in the processing of chemicals and noble gases. In addition, this role will include support to lab equipment maintenance planning and operation.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop machine programs and documentation using machine programming languages. This includes programming PLCs, and control system tuning
  • Communicate and document programs and functional flows such that it is understandable by peers and can be used in debug and trouble shooting.
  • Integrate multiple pieces of equipment or stations into a system
  • Experience with valve, pump and compressor control principals and systems
  • Problem solve and manage multiple priorities daily
  • Ability to work with Lab user groups in helping them define, develop, document and configure their required lab test environments

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • Experience with industrial control systems including PLCs and instrumentation.
  • Experience with Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller design and operating principals
  • Experience reading and understanding process documentation including Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, functional flow schematics, and control logic descriptions.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Successfully adjudicated Tier 5 (T5) (formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)) United States security clearance investigation and have had an active Top Secret clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information access within the last 24 months.
  • Successfully adjudicated polygraph within the last five (5) years
  • Bachelor degree in Systems, Automation, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in the following areas: programming (e.g., C++, Siemens TIA Portal, Siemens SCL, Siemens Graph ,Siemens WINCC SCADA, Java, XML, C#, IEC 61131-3), operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux)
  • 5+ years of applicable experience in the design, development, operation and maintenance of process equipment control systems with PLCs.
  • Ability to implement and troubleshoot industrial communication networks including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, DeviceNet, RS-232/422/485
  • 1+ years of experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, Access, MS SQL) and database management tasks, including, but not limited to schema design/implementation, scripting (e.g., PL/SQL, stored procedures) and schema-level troubleshooting

Typical Education/Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
