Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA), located in sunny Southern California, is seeking an Expert Mechanical Systems Design Engineer (Level 5) with broad knowledge of Boeing design, certification, and engineering principles. Join our team in Long Beach, CA and make an immediate impact on the rapidly growing in-production airplane programs. As an Environmental Control Systems (ECS) engineer you will be working on aspects that directly impact the safety of airline passengers. You'll be an integral part of supporting Boeing Commercial Airplane models to meet our customers' needs. Some travel may be required to support our customers as well as to have learning experiences to enhance your career. This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location.

Position Responsibilities

  • Leads the development and documentation of Environmental Control Systems (air conditioning, air distribution, cabin pressure control, equipment cooling, cargo fire protection, nitrogen generating system, ice/rain protection, etc.) design on large fixed wing aircraft.
  • Assesses complex system events to determine potential safety issues, utilizing airplane spatial integration at the system and component level.
  • Develops hardware and software component and system design requirements, and support supplier qualification of these components and systems.
  • Leads component and system laboratory/airplane testing to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements.
  • Works directly with airline customers and airplane component suppliers to ensure effective system integration and customer satisfaction.
  • Works under consultative direction and serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and programs as an advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelors of Science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry, or other technical degree.
  • 10+ years of experience working with or on an engineering team.
  • Experience with aircraft environmental control systems (air conditioning, air distribution, cabin pressure control, equipment cooling, cargo fire protection, nitrogen generating system, ice/rain protection, etc.)?
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplined Systems Engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 6+ experience being a lead on a team. With the ability to work with multiple team functions.
  • Desire to continuously improve our airplanes and to expand into technical areas without prior experience in an effort to learn from a hands-on environment.
  • ABET degree accreditation is preferred.
  • Ability to manage and work under minimal supervision.

Typical Education/ Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Travel: Occasional travel a minimum of 10% may be required in support of the program and customer.
