Collins Aerospace Actuation Systems division has an opening for a lead Circuit Design Engineer with emphasis on Electronic Controller Integration into a complex Aircraft High-Lift System. The successful candidate will develop circuitry in concert with software used with Collins Actuation Systems electrical and electronic products including Slat/Flap Electronic Control Units (SFECU).  The applicant will apply principles and techniques of electrical/electronic engineering to ensure design preparation is in accordance with applicable specifications, customer requirements and standard work practices; interfaces with various functional groups to coordinate conceptual, preliminary, and detailed unit design, engineering documentation releases, development testing, qualification testing, and entry into service.

This individual must be an analytical thinker and be disciplined in applying robust design methodologies and engineering principles (modeling, simulation, data acquisition etc.) to develop and realize solutions.  This individual must be highly self-motivated and able to work independently but must also be able to interface directly with electrical and mechanical engineers, software developers, and systems engineers to develop system-wide solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design effort for circuitry (Digital, Analog, and Power) and software for design of the System architecture. These designs will be to Aerospace standard including but not limited to DO-160 and DO-254
  • Integrate Hardware and software for embedded microprocessor devices and firmware based FPGA devices.
  • Assist in the design and development of embedded systems circuitry and printed circuit assemblies according to IPC standards.
  • Generate design documentation including requirements specifications, design details, test procedures and reports.
  • Prepare and review the drawings and layouts for production parts, components, and test equipment.
  • Create, document and test software and hardware to validate design details

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR  
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience OR  
  • In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required  
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fundamental circuit design skills and knowledge of analog and digital circuits.
  • Experience in analysis and schematic layout software packages
  • Familiarity with some type of electrical analysis software
  • There will be some computer work and drawing interpretation, as well as a familiarity with schematics or Engineering drawings.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts.
  • Evaluate concepts by creating analytical models and provide direction on which concept will meet component and or system level performance.
  • Provide analysis support throughout the development of a product/concept
  • Analyze data and performance of designs, recommend actions to create optimized design
  • Interact cross-functionally with a wide variety of people and teams. Work closely with engineers to identify opportunities for design improvements.
  • Make business recommendations (e.g. cost-benefit, forecasting) with effective presentations of findings at multiple levels of stakeholders.
  • Fundamental typing skills as well as familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and MATLAB.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to stand out, overcome barriers and deliver results.
  • Demonstrable critical thinking and analytical skills, including the ability and confidence to make conclusions and recommendations from data
  • Work with a team of engineers to design, develop, test and document electrical components.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
