The Collins Aerospace Avionics Test Engineering organization is looking for a motivated individual to be a Software Engineering Manager leading a multidisciplinary team of approximately 10 software engineers developing complex Head-up Guidance System (HGS) solutions for Factory and Service Center support for the Wilsonville, Oregon facility. The Avionics Test Engineering organization is a global engineering organization responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the manufacturing test solutions in support of the $5B Avionics strategic business unit as well as external customers including armed services and airlines both domestic and international.  As a key member of the Avionics Test Engineering leadership team, the Engineering Manager ensures they have a high-performing team in place to successfully develop test solutions from inception, through deployment to customers, as well as long-term support.

This is a multi-faceted role requiring versatility across a variety of tasks in a highly collaborative environment. The role requires working closely with engineers and leaders, at various locations around the globe, to ensure project success.  Organizationally, the role reports to an Associate Director of Engineering in the Avionics Test Engineering organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Building and sustaining a high-performing team by selecting and on-boarding exemplary new talent, and constantly training, coaching, mentoring, managing performance, and developing aspirational career plans
  • Rewarding and recognizing key team and individual accomplishments
  • The primary software languages used are C# and NI TestStand on multi-rack test stations
  • Continually ensuring a strong linkage between compensation and performance
  • Aligning the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the team with project needs and adjusting the team size and composition accordingly
  •  Ensuring compliance to development processes and standard work requirements while tirelessly seeking continuous process improvement
  •  Reviewing the teams engineering estimates and proposals, ensuring adherence to the test strategy and architecture as well as ability to perform
  •   Identifying staff, partners, facilities, and equipment required for successful execution of cognizant projects
  •   Overseeing the technical execution of numerous projects using performance metrics to drive decision making and continuous improvement

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years’ experience.
  • OR In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder.

Preferred Qualifications:

  •    Strong leadership traits and practices.
  •    Strong background in developing test software solutions using C#, C++, LabView, and TestStand.
  •    Experience leading complex engineering developments ideally in the realm of test solutions.
  •    Ability to establish and maintaining effective customer relationships.
  •    Outstanding oral, written, and formal presentation communication skills.
  •    Sharp critical thinking approaches.
  •    Attention to detail.
  •    Excellent organizational and time management skills to effectively execute multiple active projects.
  •    Resiliency in the face of adversity.
  •    Mastery in project execution oversight and the application of project management technics and tools to requirements, schedule, change, earned value, and risk and opportunity management.
