Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial and industrial gas turbine engine control and diagnostic systems. CDS is responsible for all aspects of Pratt & Whitney engine control and diagnostic system development including: requirements analysis & definition, system & software architecture, algorithm design & product software design, verification & validation.  We integrate the control and diagnostic system design across other engine system modules and with the air vehicles and provide support throughout the complete engine product life cycle.

The Real-Time Embedded Systems discipline within CDS is responsible for the foundational software layer that abstracts the hardware and manages the resources for engine control and prognostic and health management applications for P&W engines using state of the art technologies, tools & methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hands on experience in the development and troubleshooting of safety critical embedded software on target processors.
  • Hands-on experience with multi-core processors.
  • Demonstrated experience with real-time operating systems.
  • Solid experience in C, Ada, assembly.
  • Experience in Python.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1394, MIL-STD-1553, ARINC429, CAN bus and other communication protocols and the Ethernet communication stack.
  • Experience with software configuration management and defect tracking tools and agile methods.
  • Experience using logic analyzers, emulators.
  • Experience in safety critical embedded software verification to meet RTCA DO-178 certification standards and MIL-HDBK-516.
  • Proven experience in control system software architecture, requirements, and design.
  • Knowledge of test hardware and benches.
  • Author requirements, capture designs and write low-level software for embedded target processors in C language.
  • Debug software on target platform.
  • Perform hardware software integration testing.
  • Capture standard work.
  • Identify key process improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Mentor early career engineers.
  • Participate in stand-ups with CDS Product Managers.
  • Present as needed to Component Integration Product Team (CIPT).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
  • 8+ years engineering experience working on embedded systems or 5+ years engineering experience working on embedded systems with an Advanced Degree.
  • US Citizenship or US Person required due to program requirements.
  • The ability to obtain Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Experienced and comfortable with developing presentations.
  • Must demonstrate reliability, initiative, and desire to learn.
