Collins Aerospace is looking for an established EHS process improvement Staff Specialist to act as a partner in EH&S and Operations by formulating and administering Troy’s Site training gap analysis, training plan and execution. Additionally, this role supports EH&S procedures including EH&S Program Management and EH&S Compliance audit preparation to closure.

As the EHS process improvement Staff Specialist you will coach and lead (I do, we do, you do) Troy’s Site training and onboarding programs. This role supports the site’s journey to ZERO as well.  Zero injuries, zero environmental releases, and zero repeat incidents. The EHS process improvement Staff Specialist will also coordinate the training program for the site, including onboarding, OJT, and cadenced training needs (for all functions). 

**Position is currently required to work onsite at our Troy, OH facility.  

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategy

  • Develop the strategy, plans, and execute all activities related to the EH&S and Training functions at the Troy site. Activities are related to how to document, standardize, and improve EHS processes for Environmental and Safety.

People

  • Responsible for standardizing and improving EHS activities. This role is also responsible communicating, training, guidance, and counsel to Troy site leadership to ensure the plant actively supports EH&S strategies, methodologies, and philosophies.

Activities

  • Document, standardize and then improve EHS activities.
  • Coordinate and find engineering solutions for ergonomics and JHA improvements.  
  • Coordinate the site’s training program (all topics, not just EHS), including onboarding, OJT, and cadenced training needs (all functions)
  • Work with Management Team and Site Safety Committee to develop, implement, review, audit, and improve company EH&S policies, management system and programs.
  • Focus on continuous improvement to enhance business operations.
  • Promote the active management of Environment, Health and Safety through Employee Engagement (sub-committees, BBS, VBS, Gemba walks, etc.) communications, identification of hazards, trainings and implementing preventive actions leading towards VPP Star status. 
  • Review current and proposed legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Partner with the leadership team and supervision/management to ensure the best EH&S practices and standard work are relentlessly driven across the site.
  • Communicate to site leadership the resources needed to provide adequate emergency response. Provide training and guidance to leaders and employees related to various emergencies. Plan and conduct emergency drills and tabletop drills.
  • Provide guidance and tools to implement and carry out a robust management of change process.
  • Develop and maintain training directly related to job function and to comply with specific EH&S programs and requirements, such as: contractor management, waste management, forklift certification, fall protection, etc. Manages environmental, hazardous waste and related compliance programs and/or projects.
  • Conducts training/educational programs on compliant business practices.
  • Audit work area for safety and environmental compliance.
  • May perform tasks associated with Health / Safety and Environmental / Compliance.
  • Conducts required environmental regulatory reports and submissions.
  • Develops materials for EH&S training and communications on subjects required by regulations such as confined space, respiratory protection, compressed gases, electrical safety, ergonomics.

Results

  • Determine / monitor / improve KPI’s and implementation progress.
  • Positively affect KPI change, including, but not limited to:
    • Environmental releases
    • Audit findings
    • Onboarding time and experience
    • Training compliance
    • Training related opportunities (quality, productivity, cost, safety)

Other

  • Facilitating EH&S Continuous improvements and ergonomics enhancements through Troy Site.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years’ experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
